A bit about myself...

This is a picture of me from Halloween of 2015. Just so you know what sort of person you are dealing with here.

Welcome to my blog! My name is Kristina, and this is my place to talk about what I'm reading, reflect on whatever is going on in my life, and keep track of the goals I hope to achieve in the future. This is more of a personal project for me, so I don't take any special efforts to attract readers. If you somehow stumbled onto this space, and want to know more about me, this space is for you.

I've spent most of my life in Florida, usually in a state of being slightly melted from the oppressive heat. I just recently moved to Connecticut, and getting used to the weather has definitely been an adventure. Growing up, I cycled between lots of different hobbies, interests, and dreams. One thing that remained the same, however, was an intense love of the written word. From a young age, I always had a book in my hand, that's still true of me today. I read voraciously. This is the thing I most like about myself.

I love all kinds of literature, and I have a special place in my heart for classic novels. It's the only way I know of to reach back through time, and see what people living long ago cared about, struggled with, and laughed at. The ability of words printed on a page to stir up emotions and provoke thoughts is nothing short of magic to me.

My love of reading was what drove me to become a teacher. I teach middle school language arts, and everyday I strive to instill a love of (or, at least, a tolerance for) reading in my students. It's hard to inspire a child to fall into a book these days, but when I hear my kids react with outrage when Tom Robinson is found guilty in To Kill a Mockingbird, or when I hear them gasp as Romeo raises the vial of poison to his lips in Romeo and Juliet, I know that my message has sunk in, at least a little. It is my privilege to share the secrets of literature with them.

When not getting lost in a book, I like to knit, watch movies, and spend time with my husband. I have a deep affinity for mugs of tea, fresh school supplies, and crossing items off my to-do list. I turn into a giggling fool whenever I see a bunny hopping around outside. I have a quiet life, which suits me just fine. Thank you for stopping by my blog, and I hope you enjoy looking through my thoughts on what I'm reading. Maybe I can help lead you towards a new favorite.
